Wines that Evolve over the Years
The Son Artigues estate has been in the family for almost twenty years. The family had always produced a wine or two from its vineyards, to enjoy at home and with friends, but from the year 2000 Marc began experimenting and adapting the 'finca' or estate with the aim of producing wine which could be sold commercially. The winery grew bit by bit as all the necessary equipment and facilities were installed and in 2004 he presented his first wine licensed for public consumption.
Marc produces wines which are always based on the local Callet grape variety and all the wines are produced using grapes from the winery's own vineyards which are looked after with the greatest care and affection. At the Son Artigues wine estate all wines are a direct product of the vines, and not created in the lab, this has always been the winemaker's philosophy and it explains why the vineyards are so meticulously attended to. Only the most traditional methods possible are used inside the winery. All this hard work has a very clear purpose; wines which can be stored over long periods as they continue maturing and evolving inside their bottles.
Son Artigues wines mature inside American and French oak barrels and some are also allowed to mature for a year inside the bottle before they are released on the market. Marc attends to every detail and gives over and above the necessary in order to achieve the best results. He believes that the trick for producing good wine is to always work with passion and with a love for your work. Marc knows only too well that in winemaking theories and study is not enough; 'you have to get out into the vineyards and immerse yourself in every stage of the process.' It is Marc's constant hard work and dedication which has earned the Son Artigues wines their reputation as sophisticated wines with their own very special character.
