Mallorca's antique electric trains and trams from 1912 are enchanting. Not only can you take a ride as they were 100 years ago, outside the windows the Mallorcan scenery and the views are breathtaking too.
The mountains that shape the valley of Sóller close off the entry to and from Sóller to its inhabitants. Thanks to that the people of Sóller have always found it difficult to visit other villages. In the old days the inhabitants found it easier to sail to France than to go to Palma. When the Sóller railway was created in 1912, the 27,3 km railway track finally made it Palma visits accessible to all. .
The Sóller railway rises above the Alfábia mountain, the natural 2,8 km thick and 496 metre tall barrier, and takes the trains through 13 tunnels. The shortest tunnel measures 33 metres and the longest one is 2.876 metres.
