Tending to the Details
The Armero i Adrover winery came into being when Luis Armero and his wife decided to give up their jobs and radically change their way of life. Luis' wife had one hectare of family vineyards and in 1988 they planted three more, thus taking the first step of their journey into the world of wine. With the help of their imagination and lots of dedication they began learning and developing the skills and facilities needed in order to finally open their own wine estate in 1992.
Nowadays the rosé and white wines produced by Armero i Adrover are amongst the best on the island and their red wines have the potential to improve immensely over the next few years. All of them have a very local identity as they always contain at least 50% of a local variety of grape. Luis Armero describes his work as 'farming patience'; he always researches any errors and lends a lot of importance to every detail. He is constantly experimenting and learning from his experiences.
Every year Armero i Adrover produces a wine with a German wine estate called Christoph Hammel. These wines are named 'primero' or 'first' and contain a mixture of Mallorcan and German grapes (Premsal, Soerring y Riesling). The result is a very creative wine and an ongoing relationship which involves much exchange of knowledge and research. This cooperation has helped the Mallorcan winery to explore the German market and also to learn from the German winemakers.
For Luis, the fact that his wines are now sold commercially is a great reward, as is the knowledge that he has been able to enjoy every step of the way. His constant enthusiasm and hard work are sure to bring about new developments and more first-class Mallorcan wines.
